3d Horse model evolution for Poser & Daz studio

The 3d digital horse models for Poser and Daz Studio

There have been many different 3d horse models over the years (since 1999) that I have been using Poser. In terms of realism and posability they have come a long way yet some of the older models still have a place in your runtime. This is a series of articles discussing all of the ones that I have owned and their pros and cons from the old P4 horse to the Hivewire 3d Horse.

3d Digital Portrait of my Welsh Cob

Well this is annoying! I finally found the pen for my graphics tablet (hiding between bottles of nail polish on my desk side…) and settled down with my render and Photoshop to finish up the portrait of my cheeky, chunky welsh cob, Cruz and as I often do got carried away….

Now after producing several variations of my image I just can’t decide on which one I like the best. This image is intended to hang in my hallway so I want the best one, but full of cold and feeling the tug of a hot bubble bath and my warm bed I need some help. Which one of the above images do you like the best? Also do you have any constructive suggestions to improve it?

Chestnut Welsh Cob for Daz Millennium Horse

Working on a new image

Once I find the pen for my ageing wacom intuos graphics tablet I can put the finishing touches (hair) to this digital portrait of my own horse Cruz.

MilHorse Carrara Dynamic Hair

Early Experiments with Carrara Dynamic Hair

I just came across these old renders on my Picasa account and thought I’d upload them here.

They are from around the time Carrara 6 Pro was released and it was my aim to create realistic dynamic hair for the Millennium Horse model.

What I learned was that it took an awful lot of work to prepare the MilHorse model for use with dynamic hair in the first place as it has three seperate polygon meshes

Paint Horse Morph and Texture for the Daz Millennium Horse (MilHorse)

Millennium Horse textures

The following renders are samples of my texture work on the Daz 3d Millennium Horse a.k.a. the MilHorse. I’ve made all of them from scratch using high resolution photographs including some from my own horses, combined with hand painting in Photoshop.
